There are echoes of the NBN management disaster evident in the continuing mantra about switching organisational spending to ‘the cloud’. Not only is the term itself meaningless, but the major vendors should be eyed with conservative suspicion.

Worse, for ministers to talk up cloud services as if government should operate like a buccaneering Silicon Valley snake oil sales outfit calls into question the health of Westminster style democracy itself.

Australian niche business publication, businessspectator.com.au quotes Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull repeating the mantra about adopting the cloud.

Business Spectator journalist David Sawn strikes me as a more evenhanded about reporting, rather than advocating technology positions, than some of his peers (which has forever soured my perception of ZDnet, for example).
